JAMMS (Journalism as Music, Multimedia, and Songwriting) is Music in Common’s flagship program, integrating songwriting, multi-media production, and performance. Led by musicians and multimedia artists trained in MIC’s unique facilitation methodology, participants are guided in writing a song together as a group, recording it, creating a music video, and performing the song at the program’s culminating event. Participants select a theme for their song and video from the take-aways of group discussions curated by program facilitators. Musicians and non-musicians alike are welcomed.
In addition to being artistic and fun, JAMMS’ collaborative team-building approach sharpens communication, collaboration, critical thinking, and creativity skills. Participants leave the program inspired by a sense of accomplishment and pride.
The program is produced in partnership with Berkshire Community College and takes place on their campus in Pittsfield, AM with access to the school’s recording studio and music lab. Participants who have their own instruments should plan to bring them. Instruments will be provided as available for those who do not have their own. A minimum of eight participants are needed to hold the program. Click the button to register or email us with any questions.
